Created by bartender Misty Kalkofen at the Green Street Bar in Cambridge, MA, this Applejack cocktail is yet another reason you simply must have a bottle of this versatile apple spirit on your home bar. The cold frothiness combining with the warm flavors of apple, maple and the herbal Benedictine, make this a sure fire hit for your next cold weather cocktail get-together. This is a sweater-weather drink and one just right for drinking before a hearty winter supper.

Here we go –

1 ½ oz Applejack

¾ oz Benedictine

½ oz maple syrup

1 fresh egg (just try it)

Shake in a shaker with plenty of ice till frothy and ice-cold. Strain up into a cocktail glass and garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg.

I don’t need much of an excuse to enjoy Apple Jack. It’s an apple-based brandy that’s available in most liquor stores. If you don’t have a bottle, you should. Many of the old-school cocktails call for it, and besides the Jack Rose cocktail, the recipe for which you can find on this site, the Jack-In-The-Box is a fantastic, old flavored drink.

Here we go –

1.5 oz of Apple Jack

¾ oz Pineapple Juice

2 tablespoons Lemon Juice

2 Dashes Bitters

A Buck is a cocktail so old; apparently it’s come back from obscurity a number of times, become popular again only to fall back off the radar. What Mr. Booze loves about it is that The Buck can be made with darn near any spirit you’re partial to. It’s a summer drink, made in a tall glass as a liquid weapon against a muggy August evening. I drink my Bucks in the carport on hot evenings with a little jazz n the background. The sound of summer cicadas and a Buck…how sweat it is.

Here we go –

3 oz Booze (Apple Jack or Bourbon or Gin or Rum or Tequila or Rye or Vodka)

2 tablespoons lemon or lime juice (whichever you happen to prefer)

Ginger Ale or Ginger Beer (Mr. Booze always goes with Ginger Beer)

Fill a tall Hi-Ball glass 2/3rds up with cracked or crushed ice, add the juice, the ribbon peel of the lime or lemon, and the booze. Fill to the top with the ginger then stir softly.

Find aluminum lawn chair in a shady spot and enjoy.
